On Thursday the 7th November, 5th and 6th class went on an exciting trip into Dublin city centre to visit Dáil Eireann. They learned that the Dáil is the lower house of the Oireachtas. The main function of the Oireachtas is to make laws for Ireland. The Oireachtas also elects the Government and approves the funding of Government Departments.
The children were thrilled to have the opportunity to visit the Dáil Chamber, where they learned about all the famous people who had previously spoken in the chamber. They also saw old photos of the previous presidents and even spotted Michael Dee Higgins’ daughter Senator Alice-Mary Higgins on site speaking in the chamber.
