St. Margaret's National School
St. Margaret's National School is located in the small North Co. Dublin village of St. Margarets which is close to Dublin Airport.The school has a long history and has been an integral part of the St. Margaret’s Parish Community since the late 1800’s. The current school premises was built in 1956.
Awareness and protection of the environment play a very important role in our overall ethos and the daily running of the school. The school was awarded its 3rd Active Flag in 2021, its 8th Green Flag and 1st Amber Flag in June 2023. We received our first Curious Minds Platinum Award in 2023 for our extensive work in Minecraft Education and Mathematics. In 2024 we were awarded our 2nd Platinum Award for our work in Engineering and Maths.
The Principal of the school is Ms. Ciara Gaughan. Ms. Gráinne Noone is Acting Principal at this time.

SEAI Workshop
Recently Claire from the SEAI visited our school. The boys and girls from 1st to 6th class learned all about the different types of energy, where we can find stored energy and also how energy can be changed from one kind of energy to another.
Winner of Mr. Mooney Swimming Shield 2022
Congratulations to Pippa who won the Mr. Mooney Shield Swimming Competition for 2022. St. Margaret’s N.S. retired principal, Mr. Mooney was delighted to present the coveted shield to her in person. Well done to all the children who participated.
Computer Science Week – Hour of Code!
The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. This year it took place in December and 5th & 6th Class enjoyed exploring the world of Minecraft with the help of their teacher Mr. Gillic who has a personal interest in java programming language.
- The ‘ethos’ of St. Margaret’s National School encompasses collective attitudes, beliefs, core values, traditions, aspirations and goals. These are reflected in the actual practices which are carried out in the school on a daily, weekly and yearly basis. While it is impossible to outline all aspects of the school ‘ethos’, the following characteristics are experienced and promoted as essential elements in the establishment of a supportive and positive ‘ethos’.
- In St. Margaret’s National School, where the ethos is that of a Christian Catholic school, religious instruction, in accordance with the doctrine and tradition of the Catholic Church is part of the education given to children who belong to that Church.
- The pupils are prepared for the reception of the sacraments of First Confession, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, in accordance with arrangements in the diocese.
- Ancillary staff in the school are highly esteemed and respected. It is recognised that their work makes a valued contribution to the process of education.
- Prayer is a feature of the school day.
- The school aims at promoting the full and harmonious development of all aspects of the pupil, including his / her relationship with God, with other people and with the environment.
- The Principal and teaching staff aim at maintaining high professional standards and creating a safe and happy environment.
- A spirit of mutual respect is promoted within the school community. Pupils are drawn by example and teaching to appreciate and respect people of different religious affiliations and of different nationalities.
