We are very proud of our girls Gaelic Football team who were winners of the Hughie Smith Shield on 11th June. Girls from four national schools (Kilcoskan, Mary Queen of Ireland, St. Josephs & St. Margarets) participated in this tournament, and as the winning school, we have the honour of housing the Hughie Smith Memorial Shield again this year. Thank you to Mr. Bannon for training all of our school’s GAA teams throughout the year. Thank you also to Nigel our Games Promotion Officer for all his support, coaching and refereeing at various events throughout the year.

This is a very special tournament that gives us the opportunity to remember and celebrate, through Gaelic Football, the much loved and fondly remembered Hughie Smith. Hughie Smith was the grandfather of current and past pupils at St. Margaret’s N.S. which makes it even more special.
