Our Pizza-Themed Raised Bed!
Our school raised beds are looking fantastic this year and we were delighted to create a very special pizza-themed garden bed! We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Eric and Andre at Beech Vista M50 Garden Centre whose incredible kindness and generosity helped bring our “Pizza-Themed” Raised Bed Garden Project to life through their donation of plants and herbs for the children to grow and care for. They also offered great advice on when and how best to plant our bed.
The idea behind the project was to grow a variety of edible plants and herbs that are used to make one of the children’s favourite foods — pizza!
The raised bed is beautifully divided into four sections by colourful viola and nasturtium flowers, which are not only bright and cheerful, but edible too! Within the sections, the children planted a wonderful variety of ingredients including brown onions, shallots, scallions, garlic, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, basil, and tomatoes.
As part of the project, the children also designed and decorated their own colourful plant labels for each of the plants and herbs, adding a creative and personal touch to the garden bed.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed planting, watering, and caring for the raised bed while learning about growing food, healthy eating, biodiversity, and sustainability. This project has provided a fantastic hands-on learning experience and we are looking forward to watching our pizza garden continue to flourish over the coming weeks!
