We were delighted to welcome Catherine and George to our school, where they worked with our 5th and 6th classes to create our very own Pocket Forest. A Pocket Forest is a small but powerful native woodland, designed to thrive in urban spaces. Inspired by the Miyawaki technique and developed by an award-winning Irish social enterprise, Pocket Forests bring nature, wildlife habitats, and a sense of community into cities and schools.

Using native Irish trees and shrubs planted closely together, our Pocket Forest mimics the natural layers of a woodland. This approach helps to rapidly improve soil health, boost biodiversity, and create a rich habitat for wildlife. As well as enhancing our school grounds, the Pocket Forest provides valuable outdoor learning opportunities for pupils, supports climate resilience, and encourages a deeper connection with nature for our whole school community.
